Handmade items to sell?

There are two reasons to want to find a handmade marketplace – one is to place items you’ve crafted by hand for sale and the other is to find wonderful handmade treasures to purchase. Each of the ten websites listed offers both sides of the equation and you will find some better from the buyer position and others better for the seller position. So, rather than rate these sites from one position or the other, they are instead chosen due to their Alexa traffic count rating and placed in that order. They all offer a wonderful opportunity to have handmade products find a new home and gives the world a new way to shop other than the usual mass-produced and marketed items. This is a great way to share your talent or buy that special gift for someone.

1. Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/

Global Alexa Rating: 146

Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. Their mission is to re-imagine commerce in ways that build a more fulfilling and lasting world. Etsy is proud to be a certified B Corporation — a new kind of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. They were founded in 2005 and have been profitable since 2009. They have 450 employees and over 30 million members. They have over 1 million active shops and over 20 million items listed. They operate in 200 countries and enjoy over 60 million monthly unique visitors. What this all means to those selling handmade items is that there is a large pool of buyers waiting to buy your offerings. What this all means to those buying handmade items is that there are plenty there to choose from. The website is organized for easy navigation. They offer categories such as art, home & living, jewelry, women, men, kids, vintage, weddings, gift ideas, trending items and more. Etsy does charge a listing fee of $.20 to list items for sale and they collect a commission of 3.5% when the sale is made. The listing lasts for four months or until the item is sold. As Etsy has grown they do seem to be drifting a bit from the traditional handmade artisans with some comments being made by users that they are catering to resellers now. While this is making some artisans shift to other venues, there are still plenty offering items and joining so it is still a great site for buyers to find wonderful items and since there are plenty of other marketplaces that offer more than just regular handcrafted items, this shouldn’t hamper their business all that much.

The development of the eCRATER began in the early spring of 2004. After many hours of hard work, eCRATER finally went live in its beta version in the early fall of 2004. Since then, they have constantly been adding new features while also trying to keep the original “clean and simple” look. It is absolutely FREE to open a store on eCRATER!
