Photo apps to create the perfect picture
There are so many photography apps out there with tons of them being complete junk that it can be quite frustrating to know what to do. This article should take the guesswork out of the process since the ten apps listed here are all well rated by users with many being around for quite some time. Users probably won’t find one of these to resolve all their photographic needs, but since most are free or inexpensive it won’t be much of a bother to utilize a few of them.
Snapseed is the perfect app for transforming, enhancing and sharing photos. Some really fun filters available are Drama, Grunge, Retrolux, Vintage Film and Black & White. The single tap Auto Correct feature is superb as is the ability to add a high quality frame for that finishing touch. Sharing your creations via email, Google+ or other methods is super easy. Originally developed by Nik Software, Inc. but recently obtained by Google.
Insanely popular with over 150 million users, Instagram is a simple way to capture and share those special moments. With the social aspect allowing the ability to follow what friends post it has become the number one most addictive photo editing and sharing app out there. There are amazing custom designed filters including Earlybird, Rise, Amaro, Hudson, Toaster, Brannan, Inkwell, Walden, Nashville and more. Also includes video recording with breathtaking cinematic stabilization. Allows for unlimited uploads. They haven’t made any announcements yet but users are hoping for additional platforms in the future.

On top of that it is easy to use and has immediate sharing abilities via text, email, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other social media platforms. Users can also send their creations as a postcard. There are in-app purchases for exclusive art and font packs as well. This app has a strong 4.5 star rating by users with thousands of votes.

Facetune is a very powerful and fun portrait photo editor. It is really easy to change one’s appearance with features such as smile adjuster (emphasize smile, widen or refine smile and whiten teeth), skin adjuster (smooth, remove dark circles under eyes, improve tone, remove blemishes), eye adjuster (remove red eye, change eye color, emphasize eyes), hair salon (fill in bald patches, remove stray hairs, color over gray hair), reshape facial structure, apply makeup, add artistic touches and more. The app is available for iPhone and iPad only.
Android: Not Available
Afterlight has a simple design paired with powerful and snappy tools for quick and easy photo editing. Included are 15 adjustment tools, 56 filters, 66 textures, 75 frames, cropping and transforming tools. There are also various in-app purchases available. The app is just a bit over a year old but they have already amassed quite a following with over 6,000 ratings with the current version holding a 5 star rating. With so many tools one would think it would be difficult to use but the interface is simple to use and users can easily export their creations to all the major social networks.
7. Photoshop Express
While this is nothing like its full version Photoshop counterpart in terms of features, it does have plenty of features for editing. Adobe has long been one of those product lines that users either love or hate, the reviews for this app are quite mixed and thus results in an overall 3.5 star rating for Apple and 3.9 for Android. The app itself is free but be prepared to shell out some bucks for effect packs. Not a bad app to have for using their one-touch filters and border/frame options.
8. Perfectly Clear
Tons of nice editing features including exposure correction, improve depth and contrast, correct color vibrancy, sharpening the images, removing tints caused by bad light, improve and smooth skin tone, eye enhancement, eye enlargement, teeth whitening and more. Current version is being rated pretty well at nearly 4 stars on Apple and 4.2 on Android. Even the default, autocorrecting pre-set works pretty decently. While not a free app it is reasonably priced for the features it includes. Check out the before and after shots on the developer site for a taste of what this app can do.
9. Camera Awesome
The hands down best feature of this app is their 1-tap Awesomize feature. There are also 100+ artistic effects for those that want to play on their own. The app itself is free but be prepared to shell out some money on the additional presets and filters or jump into the $9.99 Everything option. One note of warning, however, is that the 12/04/13 update version 1.1.9 seems to have some issues according to the ratings for it and some review comments so although the overall rating is 5.5 stars in Apple it is down to 3 stars for current version and only 3.7 in Android. It might just be best to watch for the next update which will hopefully get this app back to its usual high approval rating with users.
Users love having a full terabyte of free storage space for their photos and with the tools in this app, they can make them absolutely beautiful. Plenty of editing tools and filters allow for perfecting those shots users want to share with others and the innovative privacy settings make it easy to make one’s photos as public or private as they would like. The app enjoys a solid 4 star rating on both Apple and Android. It is completely free and very easy to use making it a very popular choice.
