There is no denying that we are living in troubled times and as a result there are many who have real fears about their personal safety. You can sit back and worry, or you can do something about it. Taking steps to protect yourself is never a waste of time. Whether you focus on nonlethal methods or not is a personal decision, but doing something is better than doing nothing. The following ten websites offer suggestions and guidance to accomplishing a plan for self-defense. They are listed in order of their Alexa traffic count rating.

Although this website is devoted to learning about living off the grid and includes topics such as extreme survival, survival gardening, survival hunting and natural health, it also includes a category about self-defense that could be of interest. The articles deal mostly with lethal methods for self-defense, so most of the posts will likely only appeal to you if your plan includes weapons. However, since you could go up against someone that does use weapons, it wouldn’t hurt to catch some of the articles about defending against this scenario.

You may also find the main forum useful as it deals with all other aspects of open carry. This section can give you perspective on just how an armed citizen can defend themselves, their family and even others in the community. It just might surprise you how many crimes have been stopped by armed citizens.

Topics fall into several categories including child safety, criminal mindset, knife fighting, martial arts, property crime, psychological survival, rape and street fighting.

This site includes over 80 self-defense tips which are linked on the right side of the main page. You can also sign up for their newsletter to receive newly added tips. Besides the tips section, the site also offers fun videos and products. Their main product is a unique option called “The Unbreakable Umbrella.” This product is ideal for those that want to have a weapon in hand that doesn’t look like a weapon. Selling this product is the main purpose of the site, but the articles are useful as well.

This is another site that is dedicated to women’s efforts of self-defense. They are a nonprofit organization. One of their projects is to provide free pepper spray and they will sell pepper spray at wholesale cost to groups or businesses that want to distribute them to those that need them. The site further includes over 400 articles relevant to self-defense. They are also promoting the book, “Beating Violence.”

The first step is learning how to identify and recognize early warning systems by learning how criminals operate. The second step is learning techniques that maximize damage without relying on strength. The third step is building a survival mindset. They hold classes at their location in New Jersey. Even if you cannot get to the classes, you can gain valuable information from the website and you can join their email list for self-defense survival tips.

The site includes a ton of articles as well as a few videos on such things as FSD techniques and drills, boxing, karate and more. You can also sign up for free tips and updates to be emailed to you. The articles and blogs are very well written and thought provoking about topics such as strategy, techniques and weapon use.

This is a blog operated by John Zimmer who has studied and practiced karate since he was 10 years old. As this is his passion, it is not surprising that this blog has a lot about karate on it, especially as it can be used for self-defense. When you look at the categories down the left hand side of the main page, you will see that the majority of them are about self-defense, karate, MMA and martial arts. Be sure to check out his 1999 thesis that was required for his Fifth Degree Black Belt (Goden) test.
So, there you have ten websites each offering different topics regarding self-defense. It is said that people do not plan to fail but do such because they fail to plan. The same can be true about self-defense. Having no plan for self-defense just because you think you will never need it is a sure way to end up failing when you need it most and by then it is just plain too late. Don’t be an easy victim, prepare yourself.
